The book gave me quite a bit of information, but a quite a bit of it was over my head. I was hoping for something that was information for someone who switched from a plain old cell phone to this fancy gadget and was wanting, I guess, more step by step instruction. After using the phone more, I have gone back to the book and read some more, and more of it is starting to make sense.
There's so many things one can do with this phone. Really being used by my wife, and she loves it. This is our first smartphone. Still using it primarily for voice and texting. Like that there is a switch to turn off data. We only have a monthly 250MB plan, which keeps the cost way down. We can use features other than voice and text when we are connected to a Wi-Fi site. Did not buy insurance. Bought the phone at Best Buy, which matched Verizon's offer.
Smart phones are constantly changing and not having had one that I cared for before, this book is good. The book is not written specifically for the Samsung Galaxy Prime (which is a later model of the Galaxy 5) but it explains a lot. I am very happy with the book. To my knowledge there is no Galaxy Prime Manual. But this book does a good job.
This is a decent and helpful book if you are new to the Samsung Galaxy S5. There are slight inaccuracies peppered throughout - like he refers to a picture of a cable that isn't there but these are minor. He has a wealth of experience with Samsung phone and this is helpful and increases the comfort level for the new user. He writes well and is easy to understand. My main complaint is that the book has no index which I think is essential for an unofficial user guide. No index makes it harder to find the answer to a specific issue or problem
I am so glad that I bought this book. I have been using IPhone for about 3 years, so I had a lot to learn about Android as well as the Samsung Galaxy. This is a very high-end phone, and I wanted to explore all of the features that I had just paid for. This book definitely gave me my money's worth for being a competent, happy new Galaxy S5 owner.
My minor criticism is that the book did not give enough coverage or priority to some of the newest features of the Galaxy S5. It seemed like it was a somewhat hasty update of a previous Galaxy S/4 book. For all that, the book was reasonably complete, and very, very clearly written and illustrated.
I tried this book first, before finding a hard copy of My Galaxy S 5 at Sam's which I found superior to this book by Mr. Halbert. There is a lot of great information in this book, but as a brand new user of smart phones, It didn't provide the photos nor the steps that were needed to get me to where I needed to go, to learn the steps to get me started. Probably this book would be great for someone who was already a power user, but I don't qualify. Again, it is well written, but if you are new to the Samsung Galaxy S 5, you might want to consider another avenue.
Very helpful to me. I'm a first time smartphone user so the whole device was quite intimidating. This book helped me see the big picture and then the detail, so I feel more comfortable with my phone. Good job!
